One of Dubai’s major attractions, besides safety and a futuristic way of life, is shopping. If you like shopping, then Dubai is a true Walhalla with huge shopping malls that showcase all major brands. But there’s more to come!
Dubai continues to solidify its reputation as a global hub for luxury retail with the announcement of a significant expansion to The Dubai Mall. Emaar Properties has unveiled plans for a monumental AED 1.5 billion project to introduce 240 new luxury retail stores and dining establishments to the mall’s extensive offerings. This development aims to enhance the shopping experience and cater to the city’s growing demand for high-end retail.
The Dubai Mall, currently the world’s second-largest shopping centre, spans over 1.2 million square meters and houses more than 1,200 retail outlets. In 2023, it achieved a record-breaking milestone by becoming the most visited place on Earth, attracting 105 million visitors—a 19% increase from the previous year. The planned expansion will elevate its status as a premier shopping destination.

Mohamed Alabbar, founder of Emaar Properties, expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, “The new Dubai Mall expansion is a great addition to one of the most visited sites in the world. It reflects Dubai’s ambitious vision to remain at the forefront of global innovation and culture, further solidifying our city’s position as a top global destination.”
While the exact completion date for the expansion has not been specified, Emaar Properties has confirmed that contractors are already mobilizing on-site, indicating that construction is underway. This expansion is poised to significantly enhance the mall’s luxury retail and dining offerings, providing visitors with an even more diverse and upscale shopping experience.
In addition to this major development, other luxury retail projects are emerging in Dubai. For instance, Sobha Realty has announced the construction of a new luxury shopping mall within the Sobha Hartland community. Valued at AED 210 million, this mall is set to be completed by 2026. It will feature approximately 339,000 square feet of space, including over 35 retail stores, 10 dining options, a supermarket, a gym, and entertainment zones. The design emphasizes nature-inspired architecture, incorporating green walls, water features, and ample natural lighting.
These developments underscore Dubai’s commitment to expanding its luxury retail landscape and enhancing the city’s appeal to both residents and tourists. The forthcoming expansions and new projects are anticipated to cement Dubai’s position as a leading global destination for luxury shopping and entertainment.
