Cannes; the city of the International Film Festival has started the construction of a new multiplex cinema. In the heart of Cannes la Bocca, this will be completed in 2019, along with a new university campus and business innovation center. Far from the Bling Bling Croisette and its beaches with chic restaurants, La Bocca has been a popular neighborhood for locals in the west of Cannes for years. In this environment, the neighborhood undergoes a transformation at the old Bastide-Rouge. “Our idea is to implement public buildings with an eccentric style, in order to create a city entrance to the west,” said Thierry Migoule, general manager of the Public Works Department in Cannes. And that will certainly succeed because on the now rugged plain of about 4 hectares the Cineum is built, a multiplex cinema of 6 500m ², on the avenue Francis-Tonner.
The new multiplex cinema of Cannes; a concrete diamond
Designed by Rudy Ricciotti, architect of MuCEM, the future iconic building has a façade of various facets. The mayor hopes that this rough concrete diamond will become one of the visual identities of the cinema capital. To make the set complete, terraces will be covered with a concrete network suitable for restaurants. The multiplex has 12 halls and 2,450 seats, all equipped with the latest technology (large screen, laser projector, 3D projection and dynamic seats that move with the action …).
The management of the Cineum is provided by the Cannes Film Company (CCC), which owns the last two cinemas in the city center. “The work starts at the beginning of 2018, the Cineum should be completed by mid-2019,” says film fan Thierry Migoule.
