Top International Schools on the French Riviera

Exciting Times in the South of France

Embarking on a move to the sunny South of France can stir up a mix of emotions, especially regarding your children’s education. I vividly remember the initial apprehension when I first moved here. The idea of a new language and unfamiliar surroundings was a bit overwhelming. However, what unfolded after that initial fear transformed into an adventure of learning and discovery.

Let me tell you a little story from when I was seven and just moved here. I didn’t speak French, but my teacher had this awesome idea.

On my first day of school, when everyone was chatting in French, my teacher turned our lesson into a super fun game of charades. Each French word became a funny performance with gestures and laughs. It turned the classroom into a play stage, making French feel like a secret code to figure out.

Growing Up Bilingual: My 7-Year-Old Adventure

That fun first day set the tone for my bilingual adventure. Picture this: we did a class project by making a mini French-English dictionary using pictures and words. It was like putting together a giant puzzle with my friends. Learning became an exciting game, and my language challenges became fabulous memories.

Oh, and you know what made it even more awesome? The English lessons! They helped me improve my English and made learning French much easier. It was like having a double superpower!

For French schools, being close to nature and promoting good health are highly emphasized. We were taught to plant flowers, and guess what sport we engaged in? Sailing! Yes, twice a week, we would head out for sailing adventures on small optimists. As we grew older, around 14, we even learned how to sail catamarans—it was fantastic. And that’s not to mention other physical activities like volleyball or basketball.

And you know what I loved the most about going to school? Learning how to eat right with local foods! It was like a tasty adventure every day. We’d have a three-course meal and plates filled with fresh fish, chicken, or mussels, and we learned to enjoy the cheesy wonders of the region and have a blast with all the local flavours. So, not only did we get a beautiful education, but we also became experts in the local French food.

Now, let’s check out the top schools on the French Riviera to see how they can make learning as cool and fun for your kids.

Exploring the Best Schools on the French Riviera

1) Mougins School: The favoured school

Widely esteemed as one of the most prestigious institutions in the South of France, Mougins School has delivered a British curriculum since the 1960s. With over 40 nationalities among its 500 students, the campus offers state-of-the-art facilities, including a well-stocked library, IT suites, a performing arts block, and a fully-equipped gymnasium.

Mougins School achieves a 100% A-level pass rate, making it a favoured choice for international families across the French Riviera.

2) The International School of Monaco: Learning and communicating

In the heart of Monaco, the International School of Monaco (ISM) provides a private education for children aged 3-18. Established in the 1990s, ISM follows an international curriculum with bilingual instruction in English and French, preparing students for the International Baccalaureate program. With modern facilities, including a library, science centre, sports area, and playground, ISM emphasizes global thinking and excellent communication skills in multiple languages.

3) The International School of Nice: Learning and Having Fun

Renowned for its outstanding exam results and university placement record, the International School of Nice (ISN) is a beacon of educational excellence on the French Riviera. Accredited by American and European standards (MSA & CIS), ISN welcomes students aged 4-18. The purpose-built campus near Nice Côte d’Azur International Airport offers modern facilities, including a theatre, gymnasium, science laboratories, and two libraries.

ISN ensures students engage in extracurricular activities, fostering a well-rounded educational experience.

4) EBICA International School: Lots of Languages

Founded in 2006, EBICA International School in Sophia Antipolis has swiftly gained acclaim for moulding well-rounded bilingual students. Teaching children aged 3-18 on a purpose-built campus, EBICA offers fully bilingual instruction with the choice of the French Baccalaureate, International Baccalaureate, or British A-level certification.

Over 30 nationalities and 22 languages represent EBICA, which prioritizes meeting each pupil’s individual learning needs. Situated in the serene countryside around Sophia Antipolis, it is accessible from major towns along the coast.

5) The Waldorf Kindergarten: Fun Learning by the Sea

Recognizing the sponge-like nature of young minds, the Waldorf Kindergarten in Beausoleil, near Monaco, serves as a fully bilingual private primary school for children aged 2-6. Employing the Steiner teaching method, this unique establishment introduces bilingualism through games, music, art, and free play.
