The history of Les Issambres
The area’s holiday destination and seaside resort town of Roquebrune-sur-Argens spans 8-kilometre-long inlets and boasts fine sandy beaches. Its original incarnation can be traced back to the 1930s when a hotel was established above La Garonette Beach. Les Issambres is also situated in the Val d’Esquieres, which is connected to the commune of Sainte-Maxime.
Along the beach, eastward, is a sailing centre, a school, a boat harbour, a dive centre, and various restaurants and marine shops. The town of Saint Tropez and neighboring areas such as Les Issambres and Sainte Maxime can be reached via a ferry that takes passengers to either of these places. On August 15, 1944, the area’s beaches were liberated as part of Operation Dragoon, carried out during the Second World War.

A memorial for US soldiers was established near La Garonette’s entrance. The US Delta Force, part of the 93rd Evac, arrived and established a landing area.
