Explore Nice with its Unforgettable Activities!

Feline presents some activities you can do when you visit Nice on the Côte d’Azur. Here are her top 10 favourite things to do, which she hopes you will enjoy.

1. A Stroll to Castle Hill

Whether you’re with family, a loved one, or friends, a walk to Castle Hill promises an unforgettable experience. It’s perfect for unwinding after a long day and capturing memorable photos against a stunning backdrop. Although the castle was demolished in 1706 by order of King Louis XIV, the hill it once stood on rises 93 meters above sea level, offering breathtaking views of the Baie des Anges and Old Nice. You have three options to reach the top: a steep but rewarding walk, a free elevator ride, or a scenic ride on the Nice tourist train. The Belvedere at the summit is the quintessential spot to enjoy magnificent city views, especially at sunset, for even more spectacular photos. Picture yourself witnessing the sun setting over the Mediterranean, bathing the city in its golden hues.

Castle Hill is also a delightful place for a stroll. Take advantage of the built-in 1885 waterfall on the ruins of an ancient dungeon. Majestic and visible from Old Nice, it provides a refreshing oasis in the summer heat. Moreover, the hill features playgrounds for children and picnic areas, which are ideal for relaxing breaks with family. Serpentine paths through Mediterranean vegetation offer numerous tranquil spots to sit and appreciate the natural beauty around you. In summary, Castle Hill is an essential visit to Nice!

2. Museums to Explore

Nice has several museums that are rich in art and have beautiful histories. Here are my three favourite museums :

Palais Lascaris

This museum was originally the house of a family that loved music. Palais Lascaris is an architectural gem built in 1648 in the heart of Old Nice. This museum houses numerous rare artworks and an impressive collection of ancient musical instruments, the second largest in France after the Paris Museum of Music. The lavishly decorated rooms transport you back to the opulent lifestyle of Nice’s nobility in the 17th century.

     – Full price: €5 (3-day pass: €15)

     – Groups (10+ people): €4

     – Free admission is available for press, job seekers, students, disabled individuals, and companions.

 National Museum of Sport

This is a museum for those interested in sports and their history. What makes this museum great is that you will learn about the origins of sports, the materials used, the techniques employed, and the evolution of sports equipment. You’ll discover all of this and more in the museum, which also features interactive games like table football, step machines, and surfing simulations.

Opened in 2014 at the heart of the Allianz Riviera Stadium, this museum houses one of the world’s most significant sports collections. With over 45,000 objects and 400,000 documents, it chronicles 500 years of sporting history. Highlights include the 1998 World Cup final ball and Marcel Cerdan’s boxing gloves. Interactive exhibitions allow you to relive iconic sports moments and learn about the athletes who shaped history.

     – Full price: €5 (Permanent + temporary exhibition: €7)

     – Reduced rate (groups, students, under 25, unemployed): €2.5 to €3.5

Villa Masséna

Do you want to learn more about the history of the French Riviera? This magnificent villa on the Promenade des Anglais showcases Nice’s history in the 19th century. Designed by Danish architect Hans Georg Tersling, it houses exceptional collections related to the history of the French Riviera. The villa’s gardens also provide a perfect relaxation spot, offering a green oasis in the city’s heart. Visiting Villa Masséna allows you to discover art objects, sumptuous furniture, and historical artefacts reflecting Nice’s popularity among European high society.

     – Full price: €10 (3-day pass: €15)

     – Groups (10+ people): €8

     – Free admission for under 18s, press, job seekers, students and disabled individuals.

Where are the hiking enthusiasts? On clear days, Mont Boron Park offers panoramic views of Nice, Villefranche Bay, and Italy. It’s the perfect place for a hike followed by a picnic. Marked trails lead you through a Mediterranean forest where you can enjoy the tranquillity and natural beauty. After a pleasant walk, settle down for a picnic with local products while enjoying spectacular views. Mont Boron Park is an ideal destination whether you’re a nature lover or simply seeking a peaceful, relaxing place.

8. Shopping and Stroll on Avenue Jean Médecin

Did you forget your bathing suit? Don’t worry, go to Jean Medecin! Avenue Jean Médecin is one of Nice’s main shopping streets, where you’ll find a mix of international brands and local boutiques. Enjoy a day of shopping to discover the latest fashion trends, unique accessories, and typical Nice souvenirs. In the evening, stop by one of the many cafes or breweries for ice cream or a refreshing drink. This lively avenue is also an excellent starting point for exploring other city attractions, such as Place Masséna and Jardin Albert 1er.

9. Visit to Old Nice and Its Flower Market

A nice dinner planned but forgot to buy flowers for your girlfriend? Don’t worry, we got you! Wander through the picturesque streets of Old Nice, where every corner tells a story. Admire the colourful architecture, ornate facades, and charming squares. Take advantage of the flower market at Cours Saleya, a true feast of colours and scents. You can buy fresh flowers, fruits, vegetables, spices, and artisanal products here.

This market is not just a shopping destination but also an ideal place to soak up the local atmosphere and meet passionate producers. Continue your visit by discovering the numerous Baroque churches, art galleries, and small craft shops scattered throughout the neighbourhood.

10. Evening at the National Theatre of Nice

Are you interested in local arts? This is the perfect place to be. Attend a performance at the National Theatre of Nice for a cultural evening. Whether it’s a play, concert, dance performance, or comedy show, this theatre offers a diverse program that caters to all tastes. Located near the Promenade du Paillon, the theatre has numerous restaurants and bars where you can dine before or after the show.

An evening at the National Theatre of Nice is an elegant and entertaining way to discover the local arts scene while enjoying a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Enjoy Nice and its wonders, whether exploring historical sites, diving into the sea, or discovering its fascinating museums. Happy adventures!
